history of the siamese

About 9000 years ago the cat was domesticated in the midle East.Thru out the agesbaset man and cat lived together with mixed feelings.In the Old Egypt the cat was revered as a god.In the medieval period, the cat was pursued in Europe as being a disciple of the devil.In later times the cat came back as a rodent killer as well in house as ons ships.

Around the beginning of the 19th century the cat had become a popular pet. By the end of the 19th century cats wered being bred for expositions.The “Cat Fancy” (the world of cat expositions) is an English invention and they became popular social events for royalty and even sometimes non royals.

thaiA picture of this ancient race of cats can be found in an old manuscript dated 1350 from Ayuthia former capital of Siam, nowadays known as Thailand.The German biologist Pallas made in the 19th century a description of white cats with dark extremities, living in Central Asia.In Siam this race was reserved to the Rayl Family and they were kept in the Royal palace.Meanwhile in 1971 2 Siamees cats of unknown origine were showed succesfully at the Crystal Palace in London.

In 1884, Sir Owen Gould British Consul in Bangkok aquired the couple Pho and Mia. He took them home and trusted them to his sister Miss Veley.Out of Pho and Mia were born the first crowned champions in 1885.The same year August Pavie, a french diplomat, brought 2 catsmia&kittens to france from Bangkok.They were donated by Mr Paire, residing French minister in Siam, to the greenery of Paris.In paris mr Oustalet, professor at the natural history museum, wrote in 1893 an article about the cats of Siam who were returned by the daughter in law of president Carnot.

In 1889, H. Weir published “Our cats and all about them” with a chapter completely dedicated to the Siamees Cat. Harrion Wair was the first chairman of the English National Cat Club and he organised the first catshow, that took place 13 juli 1871 in London.

The first club for the Siamees race was founded in England in 1901.weirThe Royal Siamees had begun it’s briljant career.In 1890 the first Siamees cats were introdice in the states.Since 1920 the Siamees Cat has become a popular breed.The current morphology is far from the original, it was more massive and round.Squinte eyes, knicked tails or green eyes were allowed.Since then a controlled esthetic selection has refined the characteristics of the Siamees.The head hasbecome rectangular, no knicked and longer tails and squinte eyes were eliminated.
